"CONGRATULATIONS" BETTING

If the bookmakers are to be believed then the contest to be the best ever Eurovision song will be won by "Waterloo", the song which gave Abba their international breaakthrough in 1974. Even with the most generous odds, you would have to place a 10 euro bet to win 3 euro. It appears that the people may be swayed more by the big names that have taken part in the contest rather than the songs, with Cliff Richard and Celine Dion's songs also in the Top 5. The local favourite in Copenhagen is likely to be the Olsen Brothers and their song "Fly On The Wings Of Love" also are highly ranked, along with 1976 winner "Save All Your Kisses For Me". The best bet may be 1998 winner "Diva" which is available at 20/1.

It looks like the bookmakers agree with my theory that the two Johnny Logan songs may split the vote, with "Hold Me Now" having a slight edge on "What's Another Year". If you fancy an outsider then Luxembourg's winner from 1965 or Spain's runner-up from 1973 might be worth a flutter. I have shaded the vbest odds as of midnight on Monday October 17th.
